Kate features New York in her wonderful design work. We asked her why.
I have been fortunate enough to go to New York, year after year, to exhibit my artwork at a show called Surtex. This is a trade show for artists and designers who license their artwork to publishers and manufactures from around the world. Once the exhibition has finished I always take a few days holiday in the city. Central Park is one of my favourite places to visit. The inspiration for Perfect Day came from seeing a group of friends walking through the park. I photographed the scene and used this as loose outline for the image I created.
Roses and Blooms is another piece of artwork that originated from something I saw in New York. One day when I was out walking I spotted a really lovely florist shop. This was situated on the ground floor of a tenement building, and just above it there was a metal fire escape stair. I thought this formed the basis of a really nice image.
