Description
Upholstery Baize – Renaissance Blue
The Upholstery Baize range is designed as a very hardwearing baize-like cloth, in a slightly lighter weight. It is one of the more economical ranges we stock, but being British made with a 90% wool content, the Upholstery Baize fabrics are far superior to a majority of the baizes you’ll see advertised elsewhere. The high proportion of wool, combined with nylon ensures this fabric is highly durable. However, to increase durability further, the fabric is made using a multidirectional twill weave. This creates a fabric that is inviting to touch, but also has many of the same qualities for cardplay as baize does.

How Does this Compare to Baize?
This fabric, just like the baize that we sell, is manufactured in England using traditional methods. The Upholstery Baize range differs to traditional baize in a number of ways, which makes it a more economical choice.
Wool Type and Content
The wool used in the traditional baize that we stock is 95% Merino Wool, whereas the Upholstery Baize uses regular sheeps wool and the percentage is 90%. For the authentic, heritage quality please choose one of our standard baizes. For more economical projects, a fabric from the Upholstery Baize is a good choice.
Weave
Upholstery Baize is woven with a multidirectional twill weave, this differs from traditional baize, meaning that is has a slightly different surface texture. Because of its higher nylon content, it’s not quite as soft to the touch as baize.
Weight
The Grams per Square Metre (425gsm) is lower than baize, meaning that it is a lighter fabric to work with.
